Rib Judging Contest

What:

The Art of Ribs BBQ Festival 2010 will include a Rib Judging Contest ! 
Sponsored by the Lewiston/Niagara-On-The-Lake Rotary Club and held in conjunction with the 44th Annual Lewiston Art Festival which is sponsored by the Lewiston Council on the Arts.   Two trophies will be awarded for the BEST OF RIBS prizes!
Who:

The first award is granted from the PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD.  Any person can participate by purchasing a judging kit which provides one rib from each vendor to judge independently.  Score cards are provided and submitted.  All scores are inputted into a database and tallied resulting in the  PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD.

The second award is granted from the CERTIFIED KCBS BBQ JUDGES AWARD.   Certified judges have undergone a 4-6  hour BBQ judging class sponsored by the Kansas City Barbeque Society at a previous, sanctioned rib festival.   Certified judges have a designated ID# which is documented on the score card.  Without a valid ID card and number, a person can’t qualify as a Certified KCBS BBQ judge.   The same score cards are used for both the People’s Choice and the Certified Judges.   All scores are inputted into a separate database and tallied  resulting in the CERTIFIED JUDGES AWARD.
When:

Judging begins on Saturday, August 14 at 10:00 AM.
Judging ends on Sunday, August 15 at 4:00 PM.
Judging kits will be sold at the Art of Ribs Festival and at the 44th Annual Lewiston Art Festival.
TROPHIES presented on Sunday, August 15 at 5:45 PM.
Where:

Academy Park, Center Street, Lewiston, NY

INSTRUCTIONS:

Standard Judging Contest instructions apply and are provided in each Rib Judging Kit.  One Rib Judging Kit is designed for either People’s Choice or Certified KCBS BBQ Judges.

  1. Go to the BBQ vendor stand which corresponds to the Contestant’s Number on your score card.
  2. Provide the vendor with a ticket to receive your sample rib for tasting.
  3. Judge that rib before moving on to the next contestant.
  4. You are not comparing one BBQ’d rib against another.  Rather, you are judging each sample rib individually based on your experience and opinion.
  5. Please do not change your score once written on the score card.  The score will be disqualified if you make any changes.
  6. Ensure that you complete your name on the card.  If you are KCBS Certified Judge, please ensure that you note this and include yor CBJ# on the card so that your scores may be applied to the Certified Judging Contest versus the People’s Choice Award Contest.
  7. Return your score card to the ROTARY MERCHANDISE SALES TENT.
  8. The winners will be announced on Sunday at 5:45PM from the Stage.  Two trophies will be awarded, one for BEST RIBS PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD and one for BEST RIBS CERTIFIED KCBS JUDGES AWARD.
